Impedance of Results Using Lithium Heparin to Plain Tubes for Ionized Calcium

چکیده
The study was conducted to evaluate the differences in results obtained for assays of ionized calcium (iCa) by plain and heparinised blood sample and observe for any errors in values done by ion selective electrode (ISE) method and to determine which of the collection methods could be ideal and reliable. 49 samples of heparinised and 31 plain blood samples were analyzed at lab services, Apollo Reach hospital, Karimnagar, Telangana state for iCa by ISE method using radiometer analyzer and the differences in data were documented statistically by calculating the mean and SD. The results of the study showed statistically significant difference in values of iCa when blood was collected in plain tube (4.7±0.2) and with heparinised collection (4.4±0.3). It appears in the study that plain tube collection for the assay is ideal.

Dry electrolyte-balanced heparinized syringes evaluated for determining ionized calcium and other electrolytes in whole blood.
By analyzing whole blood containing no anticoagulants (uncoagulated whole blood) immediately after collection, we evaluated the relative changes in the concentrations of ionized calcium and other electrolytes in whole blood collected in dry heparinized syringes and in serum prepared from blood collected in evacuated blood-collection tubes. Using these dry heparinized syringes, we collected and ...
متن کاملElectrolyte-balanced heparin in blood gas syringes can introduce a significant bias in the measurement of positively charged electrolytes.
BACKGROUND Heparin binds positively charged electrolytes. In blood gas syringes, electrolyte-balanced heparin is used to prevent a negative bias in electrolyte concentrations. The potential pre-analytical errors introduced by blood gas syringes are largely unknown. Here, we evaluate electrolyte concentrations in non-anticoagulated blood compared with concentrations measured in electrolyte-balan...
متن کاملInterference in ionized calcium measurements by heparin salts.
We determined the suitability of various heparin salts used for anticoagulation of whole-blood specimens for measurement of ionized calcium (iCa), blood gases, and electrolytes. We were particularly interested in a new heparin product containing both zinc and lithium cations (CNLZ heparin), in which the binding sites with greatest affinity for divalent cations are bound with zinc and low-affini...
متن کاملDetermination of reference intervals and comparison of venous blood gas parameters using a standard and nonstandard collection method in 51 dogs.
INTRODUCTION The aim of this study was to determine reference intervals (RI) for venous blood parameters determined with the RAPIDPoint 500 (RP500) blood gas analyzer using blood gas syringes (BGS) and to determine whether immediate analysis of venous blood collected into lithium heparin (LH) tubes can replace anaerobic blood sampling into BGS. The null hypothesis was that canine venous blood s...
متن کاملEffects of storage temperature and time before centrifugation on ionized calcium in blood collected in plain vacutainer tubes and silicone-separator (SST) tubes.
We studied the stability of ionized calcium and pH in samples stored at either room temperature or 4 degrees C, in centrifuged and uncentrifuged blood-collection tubes and in centrifuged tubes containing a silicone-separator gel (SST tubes). At room temperature, in uncentrifuged blood from healthy individuals, mean ionized calcium usually increased no more than 10 mumol/L per hour; at 4 degrees...
